The Four Books that make up the Gospel accounts provide profound insights into the life of Jesus. 'For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.' Romans 15:4 reflects the essence of Christian teachings that guide us.
Matthew through John
The Gospels are written by four authors who had a direct connection with the Lord, providing unique Gospel accounts that reflect their perspectives on the Life, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He fulfilled the prophecies of old, painting a glorious picture of God coming to live among us for the purpose of redemption and calling us to be disciples according to His purposes. The Holy Spirit works in us by writing the Law on our hearts, equipping us to serve the True and Living God.
The disciples are challenged to reveal who they believed Jesus was. In Matthew, we see Peter declaring, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus blesses Peter for this revelation from God the Father. The Kingdom message becomes loud and clear in Matthew’s Gospel, emphasizing that understanding Jesus Christ as the promised King is paramount. No one else will come in His name to usher in the everlasting Kingdom filled with all Power and Glory.
Mark reveals the heart of true Christian teachings, pointing to Jesus as the supreme example. The Son of God, the King of Kings, came not to be served but to serve. The world often encourages independence, urging each person to look out for themselves, but this is not the love God has called us to. His calling opens our eyes to the needs of others, urging us to serve.
Dr. Luke’s Gospel calls our attention to Jesus’s purpose: “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” We, the lost, cannot earn our way to heaven; our responsibility is to respond in faith through believing. We hold onto such a great HOPE, an inheritance given to those who love Him. All Glory and Praise with Thanksgiving go to the one who sits on high, our Lord Jesus Christ.
The last Gospel is written by John, who sums up the reason for these Gospel accounts: “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that by believing you may have life in His name.” By reading through these Gospels, one is provided undeniable proof that Jesus is who He claimed to be. Even though the world may not recognize Him, these accounts illuminate God's purposes in sending His Son to lay down His Life for us and redeem us for all eternity. Amen.
