The Five Books of the Law reveal a profound HOPE in the Old Testament that resonates with us today, particularly through the Covenant with Abraham that underscores this enduring promise.
Genesis through Deuteronomy
In the very first book, we read of God's Ultimate Love in creation, where He created mankind in His image, keeping every stage of creation with us in mind. Knowing of this great Love, we can stand in such a Blessed Hope. This Hope in the Old Testament is foundational to our understanding of God's relationship with humanity.
Mankind has a history of rebellion and sin that has separated us from Him. But even from the beginning, God's heart of Love has made a provision to reclaim a relationship with our Creator, exemplified through the Covenant with Abraham. This covenant was designed to bless all nations and all people, establishing faith as the key to unlocking such a Great Hope.
The call for us is to believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith. He has called us to be Holy, just as Israel was when God saved them from the bondage of Egyptian slavery. This is a high calling, but it can only come about through a repentant and transformed heart. That was the expectation for the nation of Israel and remains for us today. We must place all trust in our Lord and Savior, no matter what circumstances come our way.
We read of a rebellious generation, the Nation of Israel, that wasn’t allowed to enter the Promised Land. Despite experiencing God's awesome power of deliverance, they chose to look back instead of forward. They viewed their circumstances with disdain rather than holding onto God's promises. God's will and purposes will always prevail, and we can choose to participate in the mystery of God working in us and through us, accomplishing His purposes, or we can opt to reject Him and lead godless lives that ultimately result in eternal death.
The People of Israel were called to keep the word of the Covenant with Abraham in their hearts and actions. If they did so, they would be successful in all that they do. This serves as a great model for us as we search through Scripture, which acts as our moral compass, guiding us to understand the Heart of God as it has been revealed to us in The Five Books of the Law.
